Every year at Logistics World we support a chosen charity that’s either close to our hearts or local to our area.
Last year we chose The Stan Bowley Trust. It’s a charity that’s based in Lichfield which supports the non-invasive alternative to open cancer surgery. Known as CyberKnife, this treatment was less well known and only available in America. In fact, it’s where the gentleman to whom the charity is named after, had to travel to for his treatment.
Roll on ten years, and there are now a number of centres here in the UK that offer the CyberKnife treatment. Like so many advances in technology, these centres rely heavily on the fundraising efforts of charities such as The Stan Bowley Trust.
Knowing how charities have been affected during the pandemic, when we started thinking about which charity to support in 2021, choosing to support the same charity two years running was a very easy decision to make!
Whilst we couldn’t necessarily do as much to help our chosen charity in 2020, we still managed to lend our support to a fundraising cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats last summer.
Much like the trust, we are hoping to make up for last year, starting with ‘Best Foot Forward for Stan’ this March.
The Stan Bowley Trust is looking for volunteers to sign up and collectively cover 7088 miles over 18 days, which was the exact distance and length of the return journey that Stan himself took, to receive his treatment in 2011.
How you choose to cover the distance is totally up to you – it’s talking part that really matters. Whether you want to run, cycle, swim, row or walk, supporting is key, as no-one ever knows when they might be facing a cancer diagnosis.
Starting this Wednesday 31st March, even if you’re late signing up, you can always play ‘catch-up’, or just make a donation!

2021 promises to be the best ball ever! Like so many things, cancer hasn’t gone away just because of Covid, making it all the more important that we all do our bit and play our part!
