At Logistics World, we always like to ‘give back’, especially to our chosen charity and the local community…

Whether it’s supporting our local community, supporting complementary businesses or supporting our annually chosen charity, at Logistics World, we always like to ‘give a little back’.
Every year at Logistics World we support a charity
Like previous years, our chosen charity in 2020 was The Stan Bowley Trust, a locally based charity and not especially well known. Registered in 2011, it’s a charity formed by the family and friends of Alan ‘Stan’ Bowley. A former Staffordshire police officer, Stan had his life extended thanks to the pioneering CyberKnife treatment he received in Washington DC. This cancer treatment is a non-invasive alternative to open surgery, and the machine itself is considered a major advancement in the medical world. Sadly, Stan did eventually loose his fight to cancer, but the charity made it their mission to raise enough funds so that the UK could have their own CyberKnife machines.

Thinking ‘outside the box’ to raise funds!
Like so many charities, The Stan Bowley Trust has had many of its fundraising events cancelled this year, and think of new and different ways to raise funds.
Shortly after restrictions were eased earlier in the summer, Logistics World donated a van to collect unwanted items of clothing from set collection points, which were in turn delivered to the charity to sell. This was never going to raise a massive amount of money, but to coin the phrase of a major supermarket ‘every little helps!’
So, when a group of seven keen cyclists suggested riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for the trust, we obviously wanted to help and offer our support too!

The epic journey, which took place in August 2020, covered over 1000 miles, with an impressive 60,000 ft elevation over the total stretch! Cycling around 170 miles each day, the team of seven completed their fundraising mission in six days, raising a staggering £7,400 for the charity.
As the cyclists are all based in the Midlands, it was necessary to transport their bikes to the starting point, and that’s where Logistics World could help. Along with a driver and van, Logistics World provided blankets, bungee cords and pipe lagging for extra bike protection during the transit.

“We are all very proud of our bikes,” explains Sam Coxon, the lead cyclist in the group. “The Logistics World team treated our bikes like their own, nothing was too much trouble!” he added.
Once the team of seven had completed their impressive ride, their bikes were then collected from John O’Groats and transported back to the Midlands.
