Volunteering is so rewarding!

Working long and often unsociable hours is usual in the world of logistics, making volunteering all the more rewarding!

After completing his day job heading up Logistics World, Tim Wilson volunteers at a local Covid vaccination centre in Walsall

Like many companies, at Logistics World we are busier now than ever!

Our work continues to be varied, and includes refrigerated goods, white glove deliveries and the safe transportation of hazardous and dangerous products under our ADR licence. We are also still busy transporting Covid tests and PPE across the UK, and we are truly grateful to our customers and clients for their continued support.

Just one of the many Covid test deliveries that Logistics World has undertaken over recent months!

Working long and often unsociable hours is usual in the world of logistics – in fact it’s expected, making it important to take time out to do the things that make you feel valued.

For many of us, that might be as simple as spending quality time with our families and friends. It’s certainly something that our own MD, Tim Wilson enjoys doing, having recently added to his family of three with a puppy called Elvis!

Even with these commitments, Tim selflessly gives up his spare time to volunteer.

Volunteering must fit in with your lifestyle. It's about being organised, so I fit it around running my businesses, my council casework and being a cabinet member.

- Tim Wilson, Managing Director of Logistics World

As well as being a councillor for the borough of Walsall for the past eight years, Tim also supports his local community in other ways too!

During lockdown, Tim turned his attention to the Social Care sector, an area that he quickly realised would be in need of help. He became involved in offering support to some of the most vulnerable people in his area, and as such was awarded a ‘CARE’ badge in recognition of his efforts.

Issued by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), it is hoped that these badges will become widely recognised in acknowledging the efforts that an individual has made, whilst promoting a sense of purpose and belonging, in much the same way as the NHS brand does.

Every little helps. There is an amazing amount of work being done at all the vaccine centres, backed up by a vast team of people. From the administration and the nurses and doctors, to the volunteers, it’s a finely tuned machine delivering excellent results.

With the responsibility of juggling two voluntary & council roles, as well as being the Managing Director of a transport company, most people would think that was enough was enough, but not Tim! After completing his day job heading up the Logistics World team, Tim decided that he should help out at a local Covid vaccination centre in Walsall.

Like so many others freely giving up their time, Tim directs the incoming traffic to the parking bays and sign posts visitors, whatever the weather!

The first week that I volunteered it rained, and the second week it was absolutely freezing. I don't think I've ever been so cold, but needs must and it's also largely about relieving other volunteers.

Having been short of volunteers locally, following an interview with Tim, the Express & Star wrote an article calling for more people to help. The uptake was exceptional, with a further 140 people volunteering.

Now more than ever, communities need volunteers in all sorts of roles and vocations. Even if you can only spare a few hours each month, there’s sure to be a way that you too can make a difference. Your local councillor should be able to point you in the right direction, so be sure to get in touch with them, or our MD, Councillor Tim Wilson himself!
