2023 – a record year for Logistics World!

The start of a new year is always filled with positivity, and whilst we are always looking forward, at Logistics World we also like to reflect on the positives that the previous year has bought, and what an epic year 2023 has been!

Along with our staff, our most valuable assets are of course our fleet, and just like previous years, our investment back into the Logistics World’s fleet has been significant. Along with six 18 tonne lorries, we also invested in 3 Luton vans, and a number of courier vehicles, and this investment was backed up by putting all our drivers through an ADR training course, meaning that every single driver is now qualified to transport hazardous material and dangerous goods.

As well as investing in our staff and fleet, we also actively invest our time in a number of networking groups, and back in the Summer of 2022 we joined the Midlands Aerospace Alliance (MAA).

This has enabled us to network with some of the most prominent Midlands based aviation companies including Rolls-Royce, Boeing and Airbus. Fast forward a year, and we were delighted that our own MD Tim Wilson was asked to speak at the MAA/Unipart Logistics conference held last Autumn.

Speaking at the MAA / Unipart event was an honour.

It allowed me to not only talk about the services that Logistics World offers, but also to share my vision that the transport industry must be focused in collectively working towards becoming a net-zero sector.

Currently HGV’s account for 4.3% of the UK’s greenhouse emissions, and thanks to investments in vehicle standards, new technologies and clean air zones, nitrogen oxide emissions have fallen by over 70% since 2013, proving that decarbonisation can be achieved.

As well as speaking at the MAA/Unipart event, Logistics World was delighted to have supported the MAA annual AGM and dinner, which took place in September and included a charity raffle with proceeds going to charity.

In fact, Logistics World is always supportive of local, regional and national charities, and 2023 was no different to previous years, as we hosted our annual Macmillan coffee morning at our head office and raised nearly £600.

Another charity that we are always especially keen to support is Logistics’ World chosen charity ‘The Stan Bowley Trust’. This year like previous years, we were delighted to sponsor their annual ball which was held at the Alton Towers resort in Staffordshire.

Last year also saw us welcome Gemma Morgan, our new Customer Service liaison whose primary role is to oversee our exemplary client retention record, and whilst we continue to be recognised for delivering a great ongoing service to our existing customers, 2023 has seen us welcome a record number of new clients too, something that we are justifiably proud of.

Having extensively networked and exhibited at six events last year, we were delighted to gain a record number of new customers in 2023 and are equally as committed to repeating this in 2024.

As you would expect, each customer’s requirements differ and it became apparent that we now had a significant amount of clients who required the potential option of a 24/7 delivery service, and as such we are delighted to have implemented this during the latter half of 2023.

With a fleet comprising of more than 20 vehicles including Luton vans, courier vans and a number of Euro 6 HGVs, Logistics World now offers a 24 hour delivery service, in line with our customers’ requirements, and while many of our new clients required our transport services, others required a trusted warehousing team.

This extra demand allowed us to further expand and recruit for warehousing operatives including our first apprentice, Cameron Dyson who not only works hard behind the scenes, but is a very helpful second pair of hands when our two-man delivery service is necessary.

A number of our new clients in 2023 were in the construction industry, and in particular some of the UK’s leading national house builders. Their delivery requirements include both construction materials and high value internal fittings including kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms. Although it is not a legislative requirement, most of the UK’s major house builders require construction workers on their sites to have successfully passed The Construction Skills Certification Scheme, so any of our employees involved in delivering to these sites have also completed this training.

There have certainly been a great many milestones achieved in 2023, and arguably, the most significant might be considered the task we were appointed in mid November, when we got the call to transport the Strictly Come Dancing desk from the London based filming studios to the Blackpool Tower and back, for its annual appearance at this iconic Northern venue. In the same week we transported a full size Dalek, much to the delight of the driver who is a big Dr Who fan! During Tim Wilson’s career spanning some 28 years, he’s been asked to transport some slightly ‘off the cuff’ items including none other than the Tellytubbies, but even everyone at Logistics World thinks that the Strictly Come Dancing desk & Dalek will take some beating!

If your business is looking for an alternative transport provider who really does go the extra mile, or you have an item that needs transporting and it’s even more iconic than the Strictly Come Dancing desk, be sure to get in touch!
