2022 – a year to remember!

Like so many companies at the start of a new year, Logistics World always likes to look back on the previous year and reflect on all the positives that it bought, and what a year it was!

Having moved to a larger premises in the early part of 2021, which allowed us to expand our service offering, 2021 looked like the year to beat! But, reflecting back on 2022, we clearly made huge milestones in the development and successful expansion of Logistics World, which began with investing in a warehouse to allow us even more storage capacity!

Our investment back into Logistics World’s fleet and equipment was also significant. Along with one new 18 tonne lorry, we also invested in two new Luton’s, one new long wheel base van and a number of electric pallet trucks. This sizeable investment was complemented by the employment of three new members of staff, Callum Mahon, Colleen Fowling and Jonathan Haly. Colleen joined us at the beginning of March as our Sales Executive, Callum joined us at the start of 2022 as our Operations Planner, and Jonathan came on board as an ADR van driver.

Our investment in our staff doesn’t just include new personnel! Our biggest assets are our staff and at Logistics World we are very keen to empower them. From ensuring that all our operations staff are trained in ADR Awareness and specific pallet truck training for the dedicated operators, even more of our drivers completed an ADR training course, which in turn meant that over 75% of our drivers were now qualified to transport dangerous and hazardous goods!

Having been a member of BNI (Business Networking International) for a number of years, we decided to join the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce in June which has been good for the business.

In the Summer we also joined the Midlands Aerospace Alliance (MAA). Being a member not only allows us access to market intelligence and the opportunity to network with some of the most influential aviation names including Rolls-Royce, Airbus and Boeing, it also complements our pledge to become a net-zero logistics company over the next decade, something that the MAA are equally championing the aviation and aerospace markets to do!

Much like our mission to become net-zero, as a company we are also really keen to support local, regional and national charities, something that our own MD Tim Wilson also champions. In fact, Tim himself ‘was sent to jail’ back in October for the charity Changes UK. It’s a charity which aims to break the cycle of homelessness and addiction by offering a place of safety and acceptance for those who have found themselves in these kinds of predicaments. All participants had to raise the ‘bail fees’ of a minimum £999 to be set free. In the end Tim’s donation was over £1500, so they gladly released him, much to the delight of his family and the Logistics World team!

September’s charity support didn’t go unnoticed either, as we hosted our annual Macmillan Coffee morning at Logistics World head office. Whilst our waistlines didn’t thank us for the copious amounts of cake we collectively managed to eat, Macmillan were extremely grateful for the £270 we raised.

Another annual event that we are always especially keen to support as a co-sponsor is the Stan Bowley Trust Ball. Held at the Alton Towers resort in Staffordshire, a whopping £65,000 was raised for this epic charity which is in the same BNI chapter as Logistics World is and supports CyberKnife, a non-invasive alternative to more conventional open surgery cancer treatments.

Tim Wilson and Colleen Fowling also had a most enjoyable time at the Midlands Aerospace Alliance (MAA) black tie dinner which was held at The Grand Hotel, Birmingham in October and Tim, along with Rhiann Hughes, who is Logistics World Finance Manager, also attended the Worth Unlimited charity ball, which took place at Aston wood Golf Club in September to raise money for this wonderful cause.

Along with our charity support, it’s equally important that we participate in any logistical associations that we are a part of. As such, Rhiann and Colleen attended the Midlands Aerospace Alliance AGM back in November, whilst Tim attended the AGM of the National Courier & Despatch Association (NCDA) in July, to ensure that we are fully conversant and fully compliant with the latest logistics sector standards.
